Resilience Recap: Reviewing Climate Change Policies Before the Next Democratic Debate

…to really address our climate crisis head-on, we must address the legacy of environmental racism and recognize that climate change doesn't impact every community equally. Warren’s full plan: 100% Clean Energy for America

Sanders often says he introduced "the most comprehensive climate change legislation in the history of the United States Senate." It was a carbon tax-and-dividend bill and accompanying clean energy bill in 2013. Today, it’s the Green New Deal.

With climate activists cheering on the Green New Deal, former Texas Rep. Beto O'Rourke is borrowing a different allusion from American history. A four-part framework to mobilize a historic $5 trillion over ten years, require net-zero emissions by 2050, and address the greatest threat we face.

Castro's plan -- People and Planet First Plan -- aims to "direct $10 trillion in federal, state, local, and private investments" over the next 10 years. The Castro campaign estimates that the influx of investment will create 10 million jobs over a decade.

Buttigieg released a climate plan in which he vowed to implement "a bold and achievable Green New Deal" and laid out an ambitious pathway to net zero emissions economy-wide by 2050 that focuses on expanding clean energy jobs and making the United States the world's clean tech leader.

Joe Biden unveiled a plan that would spend $1.7 trillion to set the United States on track to eliminate net greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

Senator Booker unveiled a $3 trillion plan to tackle climate change and invest heavily in cleaning up polluted sites around the country that disproportionately affect low-income and communities of color.

Senator Harris released her climate change plan, calling for $10 trillion in spending over a decade to combat human-driven global warming and a new tax or fee on companies that emit greenhouse pollution.

Among other things, he said, the government could create incentives for farmers to use sustainable practices like crop rotation, and encourage farm-to-table supply chains. See his full climate plan here.

Months into her first Senate term in 2007, Klobuchar introduced a bill to start a carbon-tracking program as a step toward a cap-and-trade system to address climate change. Another one called for an expansion of renewable energy tax credits, provisions of which later became law as part of the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008. See her full plan here.
